Terms of use
Draft for review. This text was written as a starting point, not by a lawyer. Have it checked by a lawyer who knows Finnish and EU consumer and data protection law before Kasa opens to the public, then delete this note. Yellow brackets mark details only you can fill in.
These are the rules for using Kasa. We have tried to keep them short and clear. If something here is unclear, ask us.
1. Who we are and what Kasa is
Kasa is an online tool that helps a family, club, school or workplace count returned cans and bottles (deposit returns, "pantti" in Finland) and save towards a shared goal. Kasa is run by [Company name] (Business ID [Business ID]), [Postal address]. In these terms "we" and "us" mean [Company name].
2. Your Kasa and who can do what
- One person creates a Kasa and is its admin. The admin controls the Kasa: the people in it, the goal, the deposit values, the passcodes and the plan.
- Participants can count their own returns. Observers can only watch.
- Keep your sign-in link, password and passcodes private. You are responsible for what happens under your admin account.
2b. Counting tablets and watch links
- The admin can give a child's tablet a one-time code. That counting tablet can add cans and bottles, and nothing else. A watch link can only look, so grandparents and friends can follow along.
- The admin decides who gets a code and is responsible for it. Codes work once and expire after 7 days. The admin can remove a device at any time and it is signed out straight away.
- A child's PIN or three pictures stop a brother or sister from counting as someone else. They are not a strong security lock, so do not use a passcode you use anywhere else.
3. Children and families
- The admin must be an adult who is responsible for the people added to the Kasa. If you add a child, you confirm that you are the child's parent or guardian, or that you have the guardian's permission.
- Use first names or nicknames. Do not enter surnames, addresses, birthdays or photos. Kasa does not need them.
- Children should not create their own Kasa or pay for anything.
4. Kasa is a counting tool, not a bank
- Kasa never holds, sends or receives your savings. The money in a Kasa is a number on a screen. The real deposit money comes from the deposit scheme when you return your containers, and stays with you.
- Kasa is not a fundraising or donation service. Do not use it to collect money from the public. Collecting money for others can need a permit or registration in some countries. That is your responsibility.
- Kasa is a small independent project. It is not connected to Palpa or any other official deposit scheme.
- Deposit values shown in Kasa are guides, and you can change them. The scheme's own value is the one that counts. Dashboards that show "sample numbers" are examples, not your data.
5. Using Kasa fairly
Do not break the law, attack or overload the service, try to reach other people's Kasas, use bots to sign up, or use Kasa to harass anyone. We may suspend a Kasa that does, after warning you where we reasonably can.
6. Plans, the free trial and payment
- Every new Kasa starts with 30 days of Premium, free. We do not ask for a card. One trial per person.
- After the trial, your Kasa moves to the Free plan unless you choose Premium. Nothing is deleted. On Free the admin and 3 other people can count, with one goal and the Classic look. Everyone else is paused: they keep their name, passcode and everything they returned, their returns still count toward the goal, and they come back on their own when you upgrade. Yearly reports, the other looks and more people are part of Premium.
- Premium is paid for each Kasa, not for each person, monthly or yearly. The price is shown before you pay and includes VAT where VAT applies. It renews automatically until you cancel.
- Payments are taken by our payment provider, [payment provider], on its own secure page. We never see or store your full card number.
- If we change a price, we tell you at least 30 days before it applies to you, and you can cancel before then.
7. Cancelling and refunds
You can cancel Premium at any time in the Subscription screen. You keep Premium until the end of the period you paid for. Refunds are explained on the refund page. Your legal rights as a consumer are not affected.
8. Taxes and your responsibility
Kasa does not give tax advice, and it does not calculate, report or pay any tax for you. Everyone is responsible for checking and following the tax rules of their own country.
- Tax rules differ from country to country, and between regions, and they change. Whether money from deposit returns, savings, pocket money, gifts or money raised for a group is taxable or must be reported is for you to find out from your tax authority or an adviser.
- If you use Kasa for a club, school, company or other organisation, you are responsible for its taxes, bookkeeping, VAT, permits and any fundraising rules.
- Numbers, reports and exports from Kasa are for your own information. They are not accounting records, tax documents or proof of income.
- Our prices. Prices shown to consumers include VAT where it applies. Business customers are responsible for giving us correct invoice details (including a valid VAT number where relevant) and for the correct VAT treatment on their side.
- We are not responsible for any tax, fee or penalty that you owe because of how you use money, or the numbers in Kasa.
9. Your information
You own what you put into your Kasa. You allow us to store and process it only to run Kasa for you. How we handle personal data is explained in the privacy policy.
10. How the service works
We work to keep Kasa available and your data safe, but we cannot promise it will never be interrupted or free of errors. We may improve, change or remove features. If we remove something you pay for, we will tell you and offer a fair solution, including a refund where appropriate. Keep your own record of anything important.
11. Responsibility
We are responsible for damage we cause through our fault, as the law requires. We are not responsible for losses that we could not reasonably have foreseen, for lost savings goals or plans, or for how you use the numbers in Kasa. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer.
12. Ending your Kasa
You can delete your Kasa at any time on the "Devices and new year" page. We can end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if we close the service, with reasonable notice and a refund of any prepaid time that you cannot use.
13. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we tell you by email or in Kasa at least 30 days before the change starts.
14. Law and disputes
Finnish law applies, but if you are a consumer in another country you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law where you live. If we cannot solve a problem together, consumers can ask for free advice from the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (KKV) consumer advisory service and can bring a case to the Consumer Disputes Board (kuluttajariitalautakunta). [Check these bodies and add any others that apply before launch]
